Study Time: 1 hour
This workshop provides a practical overview of suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), including core definitions and common characteristics seen in toddlers and preschoolers. Participants will review differential diagnosis considerations and walk through an informal assessment hierarchy, with discussion of formal assessment tools commonly used in practice. The second half of the workshop focuses on intervention, including treatment goal areas, a motor-planning therapy hierarchy, and how to build speech from early syllable shapes toward words and short phrases. Clinicians will learn specific therapy strategies (e.g., repetition supports, multimodal cueing, prosody/rate supports) and leave with concrete strategy ideas that can be used immediately in sessions.
